The Mirror Has Been Broken

“The Mirror Has Been Broken.”

On September 9, 2023, The Spirit of the Lord spoke:

A Season of “Readiness and Transparency”

When we look into a mirror, it reflects our image, revealing how we appear externally, including our facial features, hair, and body shape. Mirrors often prompt us to examine our appearance before attending a party, an important event, or a job meeting.

Perceptions of ourselves may also vary when we look in the mirror; some may view themselves as unattractive, while others see their beauty.

This word from God really resonated with me and I had to think about why? and what? God was saying to His People.

I've come to find out for a long time now, that many individuals, including myself are so preoccupied with their physical appearance that they often overlook their spiritual well-being.

We see in this world that people are going to the extreme to make their external appearance look appealing, whether it be facelifts, lip injections, BBL’s, and so much more,

God has revealed to me that the reflection in the mirror is but a mask, hiding the intricate details of your inner being,

He is saying it is now time to focus on our internal selves, our Spirit man, and the healing power that comes from God the mirror reflecting our external selves has shattered in this season, no more bowing down to the enemy, our flesh, worldly desires, and vain glory.

God's primary focus is the posture of our hearts, the fruit that we bear, our faith, and our obedience to Him. He aims to repair what is broken within us and align us with His will.

In 1 Samuel chapter 16 we see that the Lord is speaking to Samuel,

Israel's religious leader, a prophet, and seer of the Lord,

Samuel was in mourning because King Saul had disobeyed God and had his kingship taking away from him.

The Lord told Samuel that he had mourned long enough and that he should go to Bethlehem and find a man named Jesse, now Jesse had sons and Samuel was instructed to find the next king that God would appoint, he was to take a heifer and invite Jesse and his sons to sacrifice the heifer and God would show Samuel which one of the sons was to be anointed,

Samuel instructed them to purify themselves and take part in the sacrifice

In verse 6, upon seeing Eliab, one of the sons of Jesse, Samuel thought, "Surely this is the Lord's anointed."

Verse 7 goes on to say:

“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him.

For the Lord sees not as man sees, man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

Why do you think the Lord spoke these words to Samuel?

In Chapter 9 verse 2 it states that Saul was the most handsome man in Israel, in fact it is said that Saul was tall, dark, and handsome,

God is telling Samuel that He rejects the outer appearance of a person,

This brings us to think:

  • Samuel was taken by Eliab's appearance, much as he had been with Saul, so God did not wish for him to repeat that error.
  • Saul might have believed he was exceptional due to his stature, likely receiving constant praise for his appearance and height. However, it was this pride that eventually interfered with his obedience to God, resulting in his disobedience.

Many of us are internally suffering from pain, emotional and physical stress. Others grapple with rejection and abandonment. Some harbor hidden agendas and manipulative tendencies, while others struggle with pride and envy, masking the true issues they face. With such turmoil within, it becomes challenging to serve God in the manner He desires.

We gaze upon our own image to observe our external appearance, but do we examine the mirror reflecting our hearts, minds, and spirits?

The Bible says that God made us in His own image, Genesis 1:27

Some of us can’t see that image because we are allowing the things of this world to block the image of God in our lives.

Some people would say they are just stuck in their ways, some of us are confused, some of us fear change, some of us just don’t like correction.

Inner healing is what God is calling us to do in this season.

We have discussed how a mirror reflects our external appearance, and when the Spirit of the Lord declared it "broken," it brings to mind the moment when Jesus Christ proclaimed "It is finished" just before His final breath.

I believe God wants us to stop looking at our external appearance and start focusing on our internal health which consists of our heart, our ways of living, our acts of faith and obedience, it is time to rise, pick up your bed and walk

God has also revealed to me the importance of being Intentional.

Intentional with our reading of His word, with our prayers, with our worship, and our fasting

Jesus Christ seeks to heal us from within, shaping our self-view through His eyes.

That brings to mind a day, a few years back, when I felt the Spirit of the Lord impart to me,

"I wish you could see yourself as I see you, through My lens."

If you could see yourself through the lens of God.

The Broken Mirror

A broken mirror can also be associated with inner brokenness, chaos and warning

Whoever is going through a season or a period in their life where they feel the move of God wanting to heal them and deliver them accept it, I myself am going thru transformation and healing, sometimes it's not pretty you will have to lose a lot meaning friends and or family.

There will be days when you find yourself alone, overwhelmed with tears, but it’s all part of a refining and transformative process—a necessary pruning to help you grow.

The Lord Jesus Christ is saying “Don’t worry about the cares and concerns of this world, but be fixed on me”

4 Different Vases

Here are some Biblical ways to allow God to start the process of transforming you from the inside out.

Healing

Healing starts from spending time with Jesus Christ, staying in prayer and in worship, allowing Jesus Christ to heal you from within, even if it means that He has to convict you on some things, it is not to harm you but to prosper you

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Be encouraged, do whatever it takes for you to get in God's presence, don’t rush things let God uproot all of your past traumas, let Him minister to your heart, get into your quiet place and meet God there, surround yourself with the peace and love of Jesus Christ

We must relinquish all that we are accustomed to and rely on the Word of God as a solid foundation for our healing journey. There is power in the Word of God; it holds the answer to whatever you are facing.

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Transformed by the Renewing of your Mind

In the Bible being transformed means Change or renewal it’s the renewal of a life that you are used to, to a life that you are no longer conformed to not the things of this world but to the ways of Jesus Christ.

Renewing our minds is an inward transformation with the results of positive actions

Romans 12:2

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect

It is imperative that we realize that our minds are the battlefield for the enemy to creep in so we must always be on alert because he will use people, places and things, to throw us off our path that God has set before us and have us thinking negative thoughts about ourselves and others resulting in negative actions

John 10:10

He is out to steal, kill, and destroy

His job is to get us further and further from the Father so we must be grounded in the Word of God that is the foundation that we need to fight him

Ephesians 6:12

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Equip yourself with the Full Armor of God as described in Ephesians 6:10-18, which He has bestowed upon us. (see attachment)

God speaks and He will direct your crooked paths Proverbs 3:6

During a time of prayer, I felt the Spirit of the Lord impress upon me the message, "You must begin to live a holy life." This is the essence of transformation when God authors your life, through faith and trust in Him,

Listen and Obey

Jesus' teachings. He desires to reshape you according to His ways and patterns, not those of the world. Our minds can be transformed through prayer, worship, and daily reading of God's Word, which renews us day by day.

 Self- Analysis

Self-analysis involves a deliberate self-examination of our thought processes and behaviors. It requires pausing to consider whether our actions and words are in harmony with divine teachings or merely reflect our own opinions and feelings.  it's about introspection and scrutinizing our inner selves.

2 Corinthians 13:5

It is understood that when things are in use or can be used it needs to be inspected, analyzed and examined,

Just as self-examination is important for us, God encourages us to examine ourselves so that we may be useful in His service.

Spending time with Jesus Christ can lead to a more positive perspective on life's challenges.

It may result in a calmer response to situations, aligning one's thoughts more closely with God's teachings rather than reacting out of anger or offense.

This transformation is one of the ways in which God's glory is manifested through individuals.

2 Corinthians 13:5

Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? —unless indeed you fail to meet the test!

 Understanding

As part of the mirror being broken, we must have an understanding on “Who we are in Christ Jesus”

2 Corinthians 5:17

Jesus said, therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

When we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior,

we accepted everything that God has to offer us as His Children,

We are sons and daughters of the creator of the Heavens and the earth

Romans 6:18-23

We are free from the bondage of sin

2 Corinthians 5:21

God has sent His Son who knew no sin, to become sin, for our sin.

We must put away our foolish things

Colossians 3:8-9

Such as anger, malice towards each other, foul language, jealousy and hate. we cannot do the things we used to do when we were in the world, yes, we may slip, but do we continue to sin because we are under grace,

Romans 6:15

"Absolutely not"

Once you have an understanding on who you are in Christ Jesus and start displaying a changed mindset you will start experiencing the presence of God, people, places and things will start to fall away, your perception and how you look at things will start to change, I heard someone once say that Spiritual things take time

and no, we are not perfect and at times we will slip up, we will fall over and over again, we will feel defeated but just know God sees your intentions and your efforts and He will be there to pick you up brush you off white as snow

Forgiveness

The Bible says we must forgive,

Matthew 6:14-15

If you forgive people their sins, your Father in heaven will forgive your sins also.  If you do not forgive people their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Jesus came for the forgiveness of sins, your sins and mine we know what are past looks like,

As my Pastor would say everyone has their own "whatchamacallits"

and if the Father in heaven sent His son to redeem us of our sins, we have to show that same compassion and mercy towards others, if we were to be honest and transparent it can be very difficult at times, because people can be difficult, I was always taught that while we cannot control the actions of others, we can control our own. God is observing, and He is interested in how we react and handle various situations.

The Holy spirit will have you apologizing to an individual and you will ask the question why? I didn't do anything to that person, but I'm here to testify it's not about the other person it's about you; it's a reminder that we are not perfect Romans 3:23

We are free from the bondage of unforgiveness

Ask God to reveal whom you should seek forgiveness from, and He will faithfully and justly guide you.

 Staying Humble

Jesus walked in Humility,

Humility is a characteristic that we all should model from Our Savior Jesus Christ

Humility means a modest or low view of one's own importance, humbleness:

Humility is a virtue that aids us on our spiritual journey with God. Being too self-absorbed leaves little space for God's presence to inhabit within us.

Colossians 3:12

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Remaining humble means that we as believers we must deny ourselves daily, we must stay in the presence of the Lord at all times seeking His direction and guidance.

While our outward appearance may change over time, our character, as shaped by Jesus Christ, endures eternally.

We are not Perfect

Knowing that no one is perfect, we can accept our flaws, failures and shortcomings,

The Bible says that no one is perfect no not one, Romans 3:10-12, only God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, knowing that we are not perfect doesn't show that we are weak, it is part of our walk with the Lord Jesus Christ, we have to go through some things in order to get through some things,

The mirror shows two parts of us, it shows us our outer appearance and our inner battles within ourselves, itis used as a barrier to what is inside of you,

a mask that no one can see, and it shows that we as imperfect people, living in an imperfect world, relay on a

Perfect Savior and His name is Jesus Christ
